At some point when I was a twelve year-old boy I became very independent and took my bike everywhere. I would ride down my block and head south on Irving park road toward "Rudy's" bike shop. It was an adventure beyond my limits, and miles away from home. To explore the city at twelve was the closest thing to stepping on the moon for the first time—one small step for Hector, and one giant leap for boyhood!
